about us
Our concept is simple, Paloma was born out of the need to find a perfect white shirt that can do it all and has as little impact on the planet as possible. We take a direct opposition to fast fashion and want to encourage our community to prioritise environmental importance over shopping immediacy.
Paloma shirts are conceptualised between London and Stockholm by Founder Jessica Payne and Fashion Specialist Lizzie Lynch. Creating a brand that stands for slow in every sense was at the forefront of the decision to bring Paloma to life - from production and development processes driven by a minimal waste model, to selecting partners who share our vision for sustainable ways of working. Our aim is to use innovative alternatives to push fashion forward into the future, starting with our fabric.
As a newly emerging brand we recognise the important role we hold in embracing an approach for a sustainable future - within an industry that has a long way to go. To start, Paloma is a proud member of 1% for the Planet, which represents a global network of businesses, individuals and non-profit organisations tackling our planet's most pressing environmental issues.
MATERIALS
We work with our carefully selected supplier based in Northern Portugal who source and dye our shirt fabric. The company is fully GRS, OCS and RCS certified.
Our fabric is produced by LENZING™ in Europe an industry leader in sustainability with over 80 years of experience with fabric innovation.
It was important for us to select the worlds most sustainable fabrics. Our white shirt fabric type is a TENCEL™ Lyocell fibre. Produced using an award-winning closed loop production process, which transforms wood pulp (sourced from Austria and neighbouring countries) into cellulosic fibres with high resource efficiency and low environmental impact.
TENCEL™ Lyocell fibre has been certified as 100% biodegradable and compostable under industrial, home, soil, freshwater and marine conditions, thus they can fully revert back to nature. More information about this fabric can be found on their website here.
Our ethically certified (SEDEX | SMETA) buttons partner is located in Kaunas, Lithuania. With over 25 years experience they work to produce sustainable alternatives to polyester buttons in many different fabrications. The origin of the raw materials featured in the Paloma shirt button is produced using trocas shells which are harvested by local fishermen in the Indi-Pacific area. Using this material reduces the carbon footprint by approximately 25% compared to regular polyester buttons and can be biodegraded in an environmentally friendly without harmful/toxic elements released into the environment.
Manufacturing
Our shirts are manufactured by a leading family-run factory in Belgium, which is still led by three generations of experience and employs a total of 145 highly trained makers.
Their site in Northern Macedonia starts production and assemble of Paloma shirts which are then finalised and quality checked in Belgium before being transported to Paloma HQ in the UK by road, a more carbon friendly mode of transport {compared to air freight}.
We chose to work with this specific team due to their wealth of experience in luxury shirting and unique quality control processes. Fully covered by EU standards and ethics laws which ensure fair working environments.
We are committed to continuously educating both ourselves and our customers in sustainable solutions, with the view to become the most responsible brand possible across all areas of our business as we grow.
